Christianity at Axbridge

Christianity

As a Church of England school, we strive to create a caring, respectful environment in which children are encouraged to grow in their own way. There are aspects of our daily routines in school that are shaped by our Christian underpinning, such as daily collective worship, when we come together as a community and share hymns, pray, celebrate in each other’s successes and explore the wider world. We teach children about the Christian Values of Faith, Hope and Love, as well about the other world religions, outlooks and current global events; all of which encourage a wider-thinking outlook and appreciation of the challenge’s others may face. All of this ensures that we are a school of outstanding Christian Distinctiveness, as outlined in our latest SIAMS report.

Church

We are very proud of our strong link with the Church and our rector, Rev. Alistair Forster. Our partnership enriches both the school and the wider community, fostering spiritual growth and a sense of belonging.

Collective Worship is held in our Church, St. John the Baptist, on the 3rd Friday of every month. These gatherings are a wonderful opportunity for our students and their families to come together in reflection and celebration. Additionally, Rev. Alistair visits us on the 1st Friday of every month to hold a service in school. His engaging presence and thoughtful messages make these occasions particularly special, and he is a very popular visitor among the children, who thoroughly enjoy his lively and inspiring services. We are fortunate that we have some guest visitors too, with Rev Julie Simms and Rev Sue Hoskins also leading services and special events too! We truly feel blessed to have so much support.

Throughout the year, we also host various church events and community activities that encourage participation and strengthen our ties. From harvest celebrations to Christmas Carols, there are many ways for families to get involved and contribute to our mission.

We are committed to nurturing the spiritual development of our students and creating a warm and welcoming environment for everyone.

We look forward to seeing you in Church soon! Whether you’re a regular attendee or a newcomer, there’s always a place for you in our community.
